Drag Queen’s Sydney Mardi Gras Jesus Skit Sparks Holy Hissy Fit
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has sparked a national controversy after a drag queen was photographed pointing a spear at a Jesus look-alike, leading to widespread pearl-clutching from the Australian Christian Lobby and other deeply offended groups. The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) immediately demanded the event be defunded, citing concerns over “religious mockery, blasphemy, and all-around fabulousness.” According to their statement, the event promotes “debauchery, sexual fetishes, and now — religious mockery.” A follow-up statement clarified that they prefer their government-funded events to stick strictly to "good old-fashioned debauchery" with none of that pesky religious satire.
